Walking the Archetypal Wheel: Part 1: Spring

In Part One of this astrology workshop, we journey through the archetypes of Spring, as defined by the signs of Aries, Taurus, and Gemini. We begin with the theme of Emergence (Aries), discussing the blessings and challenges of birth from cosmos into human form. From there, we move into Growth (Taurus),

where we will identify how living in right relationship with the life around us allows us to grow and thrive. We will conclude with Discovery (Gemini), exploring how curiosity spurs consciousness forward along the path of evolution.

TOPICS OF DISCUSSION:

The Stars: Constellations and Signs
The signs of the zodiac represented on the astrological wheel are the "archetypal translation" of the constellations of stars that revolve above us. We will learn why these particular constellations received their honored status and how to find them in the sky.

Planetary Rulership
The ruling planet of a sign describes the "archetypal action" of a particular energy, informing the signs unique qualities. We will learn each sign’s traditional ruling planet, how the modern rulers came to be assigned, and what debates still exist within the astrological community.

Symbol and Glyph
The "archetypal representations" of the signs are rich with information. We will learn the basic cryptic code embedded in each symbol and how to the image of the glyph acts as a key to activating the conscious interaction with this code.

Element and Modality
The element indicates the primary "archetypal form" of the sign, while the modality dictates its "archetypal function." We will learn why each sign was assigned one of the four elements (air, fire, water, earth), and how each sign functions according to its modality (cardinal, fixed, mutable).

Polarity
Important to the study of Astrology is the Hermetic Principle of Polarity. By investigating the "archetypal inversion" of each sign, we uncover aspects of the shadow sign. We will learn each sign’s opposing sign, and how the individual consciousness may act as a dynamic focal point to balance the opposing energies into a complementary whole.
