May is National Domestic Violence Prevention Month and the community is encouraged to head to Alexandra Headland War Memorial at 5pm on Wednesday, May 3 for a march followed by a candlelit vigil at Mooloolaba to remember those who have been affected by domestic and family violence.

Centacare SCOPE, council calls on residents to unite and send a clear message that domestic and family violence will not be tolerated in our community.
The march will commence from the Alexandra Headlands HMAS Brisbane Memorial and head towards the Loo with a View at Mooloolaba for a moving candle lighting ceremony to remember those who have sadly lost their lives to domestic and family violence.

5.30pm Ceremony opening
6pm Candle lighting and shoe ceremony where people are invited to participate by placing a pair of shoes on the beach to represent a person who has died as a result of domestic and family violence.
6.30pm Ceremony concludes
The National Domestic Violence Prevention Month campaign will challenge Queenslanders to consider their attitudes towards domestic and family violence and recognise that a whole of community response is required to stop the violence.
