Every year Theatre Group takes two shows to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. It's the largest arts festival in the world, and the most invaluable two-month experience. This is your chance to take a show up to the Fringe and have an amazing summer! We usually select two shows which perform in the same space
on alternate days throughout the Festival.
Proposals will be held on Saturday 13th February. The format will be similar to our term time proposals. You will have 10 minutes to talk about your ideas then a 5 minute discussion period with the committee. You can come on your own or with your production team if you have one.
The show you propose must have no rights, as these would be too expensive to fund for the whole month of the Fringe. So this means either proposing new writing, or a play that is out of copyright. If you propose a play that is out of copyright, you'll need to tell us what you're going to do with it, and why it would be a success at the Fringe (both commercially and artistically). When choosing a play we advise you to select something which you will be able to market successfully at the Fringe, as Theatre Group must choose shows which will be financially viable.
If you propose an original piece of writing, you do not have to have finished it by the date of proposals, but you'll need to have finished script extracts and a very detailed plot so that the committee can get a sufficient idea of your work.
This year, we require you to submit a script of the play you are proposing by FRIDAY 5TH FEBRUARY so that the committee have a chance to read it prior to proposals. If the script is not complete, you can submit script extracts and a synopsis of the play instead.
Here’s a few ideas on what to include in your proposal:
A short synopsis of the play
How will you market the show in Edinburgh?
Who is your target market?
Why will people want to come and see the show?
What design ideas do you have, e.g. set, costume, props?
What ideas do you have for fundraising money?
Why would you be a good director?
What will make you a successful leader of your team over the two-month period?
Shows must be between 45 and 55 minutes in length, as this is the time slot allowed by the venue.
Production teams of the shows accepted MUST BE FREE for the whole of July for rehearsals and the whole of August for the Festival itself. You must be able to fund your living costs whilst staying in Edinburgh for the month. We will organise and pay for theatre hire for you, help with publicity for your show, provide you with a production budget, as well as access to a network of actors/producers/crew. You do not need to have a full production team to propose, as we can link you up with people at a later date.

We will have a Proposal Nervy Tea on TUESDAY 2ND FEBRUARY where you can come and have an informal chat with us about your proposal. We highly advise you come and ask us any questions you may have, as we can iron out any issues before your proposal, giving you a stronger chance.
Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions! You can email email@example.com or message us on Facebook.
Don't miss out on this amazing opportunity- it truly is the most exciting event in the TG calendar, and a chance to have a wonderful summer of theatre!
