O K my fellow riders I am now able to confirm that there have been some tweeks made to the 2017 running of the Surf 2 Surf Rescue Ride
I have listened to a number of requests and suggestions over the last 5 years and have taken this on board and have come up with a change on how this years ride will
The ride will now start from here in Hamilton at the Workingmen's Club, and then proceed south from there doing a "Ride Past" of the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Base at Waikato Hospital.
From there it will head along Ohaupo Rd to Collins Rd where we will turn right and head to Temple View before proceeding South via Pirongia to Te Kawa Rd West where we will turn left to Highway 3 between Kihikihi and Otorohanga.
From there we will cross the H'Way and proceed toWharepapa South and then turn towards the Arapuni Dam and then onto Putaruru for the usual BBQ fund raiser lunch at the school.
The afternoon ride will be what was previously the morning part of the ride, that is to say from Putaruru to the Waihi Beach Memorial RSA.
On the Saturday night the RSA will have a live band on at the Club and I am currentley working on a discount on the evening meal for riders who want to eat there.
I am in negotiation to try and locate an overnight minimal cost camping site close to the Club to make it easy for riders to stay over on Saturday night and have a easy ride home on Sunday.
FOR OUT OF TOWNERS WHO WOULD LIKE TO PARTICIPATE IN THE RIDE AND WANT ACCOMMODATION IN HAMILTON ON THE NIGHT OF FRIDAY THE 3RD PLEASE BE AWARE THAT THERE IS A "WORLD CUP RUGBY LEAGUE GAME ON HERE ON THE SATURDAY NIGHT!!!! Book early to avoid missing out !!!!
There will be a $10 cooked plated breakfast at the HWMC from 8.30 onwards, registration is still only $20 per person.
To this I will add that in previous years I have done most of the organisation and running of the ride as an individual with the help of a small group of dedicated friends from Paeroa where I was living.
This year the ride is under the umbrella of The Surf 2 Surf rescue Ride Charitable Trust which is registered with the Department of Internal Affairs.
I am pleased to let you all know that the Hamilton Motorcycle Club have agreed to provide logistical support to the ride with both the registration process and by providing Road Marshals for the riding groups.
I welcome the assistance of the HMC and would like to express my appreciation for their support.
Please check back for more details that I will post as I sort out the last few details that need to be finalised.
Thank you all your support is appreciated.
