Joe holds a bachelor of science in exercise physiology from James Madison University, where he also interned as a strength and conditioning coach for three years. In his time at JMU, he utilized the Westside philosophy with football, field hockey, lacrosse, swimming & diving, and golf. Following his graduation he began a internship at Westside Barbell under Lou Simmons, and has been there actively training for over three years. He most recently trained the CrossFit Grandview team in special strengths leading into regionals and the games where they placed 8th in the world.
