Join Howard County Recreation and Parks, the Howard County Historical Society and the Howard County African American Heritage Project for a special musical program on January 18th, 2016 at the Roger Carter Center, located at 3000 Milltowne Drive, Ellicott City MD 21043 honoring the legacy of Dr. Martin
Luther King, Jr. The program will feature performances by the Florence Bain Center Senior Gospel Choir and special guest musician and recording artist Scott Paynter. Scott's program will invite attendees of all ages to participate in a music workshop, learning how to play and sing iconic "Songs of Freedom" inspired by the message of Dr. King.
The program is free and open to the public, suitable for all ages.
10 am – 1 pm: Projects/Displays in the Roger Carter lobby.
10:30 - 11:15: Florence Bain Senior Center Gospel Choir with Historical Narrative
Songs performed: Wade in the Water, We shall Overcome, Ole’ Time Religion, Ride on, King Jesus, Plenty Good Room
11:15 – 11:30: Young vocalists.
11:30 – 12:30: Interactive Music Workshop with musician Scott Paynter who will teach and perform iconic freedom based songs by Bob Marley, John Lennon, Peter Tosh and more.
