You don’t have to relate to the word slut to join or support the movement. Slutwalk is for everyone who stands against victim blaming. It is time to change the way we think about rape and sexual abuse. It is time to hold criminals accountable for their choices. It is time to support survivors.
Johannesburg is part of the international Slutwalk movement that started in Canada in 2011 when a police officer told university students that if women didn’t want to be raped they should stop dressing like sluts. There are now Slutwalks in more than 100 cities spreading the message that nobody deserves to be raped.
