Sligo Live Festival presents a double bill of Mongrel State and Leila Jane & The Healers for Festival Club Saturday at Andersons Grill & Bar Sligo from 10:00 pm. Adm FREE.
Dublin based Mongrel State's members are from four different countires - Ireland, Italy, Spain and Argentina - hence the name. They
are heavily influenced by various forms of Americana - Raw Rock n’ Roll, Thumping Rockabilly, Gritty Folk & Down Home Southern Rock, whilst also adding other flavours to the mixture, such as South-American rhythms & percussion and tight, inventive songwriting. Live, they always deliver a full on fun show, intent on getting the audience to move their asses, and not just their hearts and minds. “Is there a better country rock band in Ireland?” - Stephen Byrne, Goldenplec “...a great bustling, rousing energy...” - Danny McIlhinney, Irish Mirror. On Stage 12 midnight sharp.
Following a Cambridge Folk Festival 2013 appearance Leila Jane was described as “Somewhere between Janis Joplin and Fairport Convention’s Sandy Denny”. High praise indeed for the Dublin based singer, who appears here with The Healers, her 5 piece band with acoustic and electric guitars, bass, drums and backing vocals. Their unique sound is heavily influenced by 50s Rock‘n’Roll, 60s Folk and Retro Blues. On Stage 10:30pm sharp.
