Corrective Exercise is an approach to wellness where an assessment is used to determine specific weaknesses or limitations in a client. These areas can be improved to reduce pain, limit injuries, and improve performance. In this session we will work through the four phases of the corrective exercise
Inhibit- release tension or decrease activity of over active neuromyofascial tissue in the body.
Lengthen- techniques to increase the length, range of motion, and flexibility.
Activate- reeducate or increase activation of under active tissues and muscles.
Integrate- Retrain the function of all muscles through progressive movements.
The shoulder girdle has the greatest range of motion of any joint in the body. The unique anatomy of the shoulder girdle enables the joint to balance maximum mobility while maintaining stability. The same qualities that allow this flexibility also makes the area vulnerable to injury. Shoulder pain is estimated to exist in 21% of the population, with 40% of those cases lasting longer then a year. Continuing to work or exercise with a compromised shoulder can result in further pain and damage.
We will begin our hour with a quick assessment to determine which type of shoulder pain you suffer from, we will then move through the prescribed exercises in the corrective exercise spectrum. You will leave with the exercises written out for you, so you can continue your practice at home. Corrective exercise works best when the exercises are completed consistently and correctly. We will spend our time together giving you the tools you need to continue your treatment at home.
