2015 proved to be a big year for Shields, headlining The Rabbit Hole stage at Glastonbury, and with their performance at BBC Introducing in Newcastle prompting 6Music’s Tom Robinson to offer the following assessment:
“Shields blew my socks off… [a] tight, beautiful, powerful sound
with perfectly honed vocals… Songs which took you on journeys… Huge energy… Huge commitment.”
Described by BB6 Music’s Tom Robinson as ‘a breath of fresh air’, four piece Joy Atlas offer radiant, angular, neon lit pop music. Their soaring, synth-laden sound, paired with the resonant impact of Beccy Owen’s voice, glides above a chiming, staggering backdrop of bleak-beats, deep bass, horn-riffs and synthy dreaminess.
The Great Curve, featuring members of Grandfather Birds, Last Waltz and Kylver, in the last year, as well as sharing a stage with such luminaries as Manchester Post-Rock legends The Chameleons, having a track used as part of an advertising campaign for the region, and headlining a stage at Newcastle’s prestigious Evolution Emerging event, which showcases new talent, the band also found time to release their debut EP & follow up single ‘Vape Thy Last Vape’ to much acclaim, winning them fans such as BBC Radio 6’s Tom Robinson.
