[Sat] 16.01.16 ❄ LAST MØVEMENT & WINTER SEVERITY INDEX @Alvarado Street

Winter Severity Index. An exciting new musical project based in Rome, Italy. Created by Simona Ferrucci, singer, guitarist, composer and songwriter, Winter Severity Index span effortlessly the genres of post-punk

and new-wave, developing a dark-wave ethereal sound that is both achingly beautiful and coldly savage.

The project was born in 2009 in traditional band format, formed by four young women. During 2010 they published a self-released EP, "Winter Severity Index", distributed by AF Music, which quickly sold-out. From that year forward, the band received a host of excellent reviews throughout Europe and performed gigs around Italy, in Berlin at Death#Disco, and in Lisbon at the Graveyard Festival.
In January 2012 the project reduced itself to a duo, and Simona continued collaborating with Valentina Fanigliulo, a.k.a. Mushy. They then published a much anticipated new track, "Embracing the Void" on the Death # Disco Compilation Volume 2. This was followed by an EP," Survival Rate", released on May 2013 by Blood Rock Records. The EP, now sold out, has been widely distributed worldwide and collected many impressive reviews from music magazines and web-zines alike.
The current line-up of Winter Severity Index sees Simona collaborating with Alessandra Romeo (ex Cat Fud and Bohemien). They recorded the track "Static Cold" in 2013 for "Riding the Crest of the Frozen Wave", a tribute compilation to The Frozen Autumn, released by Calembour Records.

What followed was the writing and recording of the long awaited debut album, entitled ‘Slanting Ray’ that was released on April 2014 by Manic Depression and Blood Rock Records. A startling and stark statement, it melds the cold, vintage drum machine rhythm-section with the liquid melancholy of Simona’s guitar, her haunting, heart-breaking vocals and soul-searching, penetrating lyrics, and the ethereal sweeping synth-scapes of Alessandra. Throughout the year, the impact of the album became clear, as rave reviews far and wide claimed ‘Slanting Ray’ to be one of the best albums of 2014. This acknowledgment of the importance of Winter Severity Index as a band growing from players to leaders in the modern post-punk and cold-wave scene led to gig offers throughout Europe. The band have continued to play gigs around Italy, but also in France, Spain and Germany, as well as making their UK debut in Leeds at the influential Carpe Noctum club-night.
2015 sees further gigs planned as well as festival shows such as at the Owls ‘n Bats Festival in Germany, and additional dates in the UK, including the Sacrosanct Festival in Reading.
Winter Severity Index are very pleased to announce they are currently writing new material…
