Inspired in 2014 by best-selling author Elizabeth Berg, this now annual writing retreat is set in a 100-year-old mansion in Mill Valley, Calif., just across the Golden Gate Bridge from San Francisco. The retreat house is located in a spectactular natural venue surrounded by towering redwood trees, with
hiking trails, brooks and so much more.
The best way to describe this incredible retreat house comes straight from their website:
“It is a peaceful place that helps to reinvigorate individuals and strengthen the bonds of humanity by providing a retreat where people share and exchange ideas, find spiritual solace and reaffirm a sense of community.”
When Elizabeth first put the idea out into the universe for this retreat, it was inspired by a belief that has served her well: “We find our best writing selves there” by giving ourselves the “gifts of time, contemplation, inquiry and peace.”
Those who have participated in this retreat each year have found it to be the perfect setting to welcome your muse. There is plenty of time for solitude and silence, walking and exploring, talking and laughing...and of course, writing. We also come together to share (if you feel inclined) and provide feedback and support.
More details will be forthcoming, but basic itinerary is we arrive at the Ralston White Retreat House at 3 p.m. Nov. 14, meet one another and settle into our rooms. We host a "cocktail hour" at 5, then at 6, the chefs announce dinner is ready by ringing a handbell (it's as awesome as it sounds).
Thursday-Saturday, three delicious farm-to-table meals are prepared for us onsite. On Sunday, we have breakfast around 9 and head out at 11 a.m.
Cost is $675 all-inclusive (including room and board, meals, event insurance and taxes) and is based on a minimum of 13 attendees. The retreat is limited to no more than 20. If you have always wanted to attend a writing retreat, and have been longing for an opportunity to focus on your writing (no matter where you are) in a stunning and serene setting, definitely consider joining us in December!
