This is the Facebook page for Rally for Dreamers Columbia/Mid-MO. We will be assembling at the Boone County Courthouse Plaza at 12:30PM on Sunday February 25th, 2018.
This rally is made possible by the support from the wonderful people of Columbia, MO, as well as cosponsors from the Mid-Missouri Fellowship
of Reconciliation, CoMo for Progress, Mid-Missouri Peaceworks, the Association of Latin@ American Students, and others who are helping with logistical planning.
This rally is in support of Dreamers (DACA recipients). DACA, short for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, is a program established by President Barack Obama in 2012. It gives Dreamers, who were brought to the U.S as children by their parents, the rights to work and pay taxes, to study, and to drive, among other things.
Last year, President Donald Trump announced that he will allow DACA to expire on Monday, March 5, 2018 unless Congress finds a solution. With the expiration of DACA, Dreamers are at risk of being deported from the only country they call home.
If a solution is brokered before February 25th, this rally will be a celebration that Dreamers are safe. If a solution has not yet been brokered, this rally will be a call to action to demand that Dreamers continue to be protected.
Dreamers have grown up in the same communities that everyone else has. They have attended the same schools and churches, they have made friends with people, and they have had a positive impact on many people’s lives. They are every bit as American as you or I, and they call this country their home. Let us show our support for Dreamers!
