Making Potholder Rugs
is a super simple process that I came up with in 1991 when running a large volume recycling company to use otherwise useless materials. Not only are these soft and durable floor cushions amazing to step on, sit upon or play on, they are insulating and close the loop for a large volume of discarded clothing. In two days a diligent worker can complete a 2.5x7ft runner to take home. Every aspect of the process from material preparation to making custom sized rugs will be touched upon. Beginners and experienced weaver/makers welcome. Materials are supplied but if students have a particular color scheme in mind for their rug they should collect and bring materials with them.
Materials can be found at any thrift shop and include t-shirts, sweaters, sweatshirts, leggings, sweat pants, and any other discarded stretchy garment (holes and stains are fine for this process). All materials should be washed and dried prior to the workshop.
