MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship Round 10
Taking a year out of racing action at the Portuguese circuit, the World Superbike Championship returns for 2017!
A fairly modern circuit on the calendar, it hosted the WorldSBK Championship since it’s opening in 2008 and has seen some nail biting racing
action in the past. Five of the riders who will line up on the grid have taken the victories at the circuit, meaning the 10th round of the season won’t be on to miss. Jonathan Rea was the last rider to take the glory at Autódromo Internacional do Algarve back in 2015, as he secured the double victory for the Kawasaki Racing Team; so the reigning champion will be hoping to carry on where he left off.
Jules Cluzel took the glory in World Supersport back in 2015, ahead of Kenan Sofulogu in a close fought race.
The return to the picturesque Portuguese circuit, you won’t want to miss out the irreplaceable action.
About the track:
Officially opening in 2008 with dreams of hosting the Formula One Grand Prix, Autódromo Internacional do Algarve hosted the WorldSBK series from its opening. A stunning ‘rollercoaster’ style circuit full of elevation changes, the circuit has been a popular one amongst fans as it plays host to some of the best viewing spots on the calendar. With plans for the Formula One falling through despite testing at the circuit, they continued to hold a full years worth of events before coming into financial difficulties in recent years.
Now back up and running, the circuit will welcome a return from the World Superbike championship, ready for a weekend full of pure racing action.
