The Pengwern Arms is a 200-year old drovers inn that stands in the village square in Llan Ffestiniog, opposite the parish church.
Many stories and ghostly tales have been told of this community pub where traditional fairs and markets were held at which farmers would hire their workers for the coming
season. Across the square is the church, perched high overlooking the valley below.
Are you brave enough to join the teams as we explore the dark secrets of the Pengwern Arms?
Elizabeth Gaskell, the Victorian era writer of novels and short stories, was fond of Ffestiniog. Mr and Mrs Gaskell visited the village and spent some time there on their wedding tour. On another later visit in 1844 it was at the inn there that their young son William caught scarlet fever, from which he died.
