This year we have a SPECIAL GUEST coming all the way from Japan! KUMAMON from Kumamoto Prefecture will be joining us at the Melbourne Japanese Summer Festival! It will be Kumamon’s first time in Australia. Look out for Japan’s favourite bear on stage at 12.35pm and around the festival. He loves meeting new friends, so make sure to welcome him and show him the Aussie way!

Come in a Kimono/Yukata or Cosplay to enter our Best-Dressed Award competition and win lots of prizes!
Plus enter our raffle for a chance to win premium and economy return tickets to Japan. Raffle proceeds will go towards chosen charities.

As always, the River Terrace will be lined with stalls offering delicious Japanese food. Fantastic Japanese restaurants from all over Melbourne will be offering something for everyone. Those after a real feed will find okonomiyaki, yakitori, takoyaki and other festival favourites – or those looking for the perfect treat on a hot day might prefer ice cream or a nice cold beer. Walk around the Festival and you’ll find lots to do. There’ll be activities such as origami and balloon-yoyos for the whole family to enjoy, and plenty of arts and crafts for the creative and fashionable. Once again everyone will have a chance to learn and participate in one of the most important traditions in Japan — The traditional Bon Odori – a dance giving thanks to one’s ancestors.

At the end of the evening we will once again be drawing our raffle prizes, with over forty prizes up for grabs – including the major prize of pair Premium Economy tickets to Tokyo. We would love to see you there!
