Sprouting Hope is a 501(c)3 non-profit operating with a five person board, a part-time program coordinator, and a strong base of community volunteers. Sprouting Hope provides fresh produce in a fair way that ensures that people volunteering in the garden and people who are unable to garden themselves have fair access to healthy food. In 2015, the garden yeilded 5,909 lbs of fresh produce which converts into 42,899 vegetable servings. All volunteers in the garden may take a fair portion of the harvest each time they volunteer, regardless of their socioeconomic status. Sprouting Hope seeks to involve and serve low income communities and outreach efforts are made to ensure this, such as providing transportation to and from the garden for people that need it. Everything grown is distributed to volunteers, food pantries, soup kitchens, and the free clinic. Through these distribution channels, we serve approximately 305 families in Smyth County, Virginia.
