Loving Vincent, the world’s first fully oil painted feature film, brings the artwork of Vincent van Gogh to vibrant life in an exploration of the complicated life and controversial death of one of history’s most celebrated artists. More than six years in the making, Loving Vincent is a uniquely animated film created by 65,000 individually painted frames created by a team of 125 specially trained artists.
Drawn from meticulous research, the story begins on July 27th, 1890 when a gaunt figure stumbled down a drowsy high street at twilight in the small French country town of Auvers. The man was carrying nothing; his hands clasped to a fresh bullet wound leaking blood from his belly. This was Vincent van Gogh, then a little known artist; now the most famous artist in the world. His tragic death has long been known, what has remained a mystery is how and why he came to be shot. Loving Vincent tells that story. Featuring the vocal talent of Saoirse Ronan, Chris O’Dowd, Aidan Turner, Eleanor Tomlinson, Jerome Flynn and Robert Gulaczyk. Directed by Dorta Kobiela and Hugh Welchman, 2017 USA, 94 minutes, Rated PG-13.
