Late Bus to Mecca // BLK GRL is a double-bill senior project production by Theatre & Performance students Marjorie Prophete, Lorena Peralta, & Ahtiya Liles.
Late Bus to Mecca is a Senior Project presented by Lorena Peralta and Marjorie Prophete. The show follows two Black women, whose lives intersect
at a Detroit bus station, and their random encounter provides both women a way to free themselves from their current circumstances. The director, Lorena Peralta, has adapted this piece to showcase present-day issues while maintaining Pearl Cleage's artistic vision.
BLK GRL is an original play written and directed by Ahtiya Liles. Drawn from real life conversations, BLK GRL features a collection of monologues, collective pieces, and spoken word that deals with varying experiences of being both a black woman and millennial in this country. With elements of black feminism/womanism and pro-black rhetoric, BLK GRL works through the varying awkward (yet always prevalent and never talked about) journey that is being a black girl coming of age in this country.
