Kings Mountain guided hike to Glencar

This in my opinion is one of the most beautiful hikes throughout Sligo and is highly recommended.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The hike combines stunning scenery, historic and industrial history.

We commence the day by climbing Kings Gully,

stopping at the Noble Six cross to remember the terrible time in Ireland's civil war that lead to tragic events that unfolded on Kings Mountain.
The route continues along the escarpment with views of the Glencar Valley.
A short detour will bring us to the old disused Barytes mines at Glencarbury where we can learn about the history of Barytes mining and its importance to the locality of Sligo/Letrim for many years.
Then its on to explore the highest waterfall in Ireland, the Devils Chimne,y known as "Sruth Aigh ar an Airde", which translated literally means "The stream against the height". A unique feature of this waterfall is that at certain times it flows upward due to the updraught.
Finally we make our way down the old bog road to Glencar lake and the end of our hike.

The hike will take approx. 4 to 5 hours to complete at a gentle pace.

Difficulty level: Moderate. Well within the reach of good regular walkers.
