Islam: History, Culture & Politics

What if the story of Jesus turning water into wine offered a deeper symbolism for readers more near Jesus’ day than our own? For instance, most debates rage about the quality of the wine. The more important question may involve understanding what it means that water pots used for ceremonial cleansing

were filled with new wine. Context matters.

Today we face constant questions about Islam. Are all Muslims the same? What makes an Islamic radical? What about ISIS?

Most often Christians consider Islam from the standpoint of defending our own beliefs. What would it mean if we understood Islam from within its own history, its own context?

Would we make better decisions about how we should treat people different from ourselves - religiously, socially, politically? Those often called enemies?

Rather than invite a Christian Apologist to offer a point/counter-point presentation, we have invited a college instructor who teaches world religions to present Islam from within its own context.
