Mounds State Park's Hoots and Howls weekend kicks of with the popular "Not so Scary" Hikes on Friday evening from 6pm to 9pm. Visitors will gather in front of the Bronnenberg Home lawn and take a self-guided hike along a magical illuminated trail. The trail is stroller passable and family friendly and
participants will be able to depart every 10 minutes. There are staffed stations along the trailside where you may learn more about bats, spiders, mysterious "lost" caves, Puk-Wud-Jies and more. Last admission to the trail will be at 8:30, but you can arrive any time.
On Saturday, the festivities continue! Come to the Nature Center at noon and build “Creepy Crafts”. Make your own ghost, spider, and other spooky creatures. We will craft until 2pm.
CAMPERS! Would you like to participate in the campground decorating contest? Enter your site at the camp store and decorate your campsites by no later than 3pm. Volunteers will vote for their favorite decorated campsites. Prizes for the top three sites will be announced at 5:30 pm at the camp store and the Naturalists will make their way around with prizes shortly after. For more information about the contest, contact email@example.com or see the camp store when you check in!
At 3pm on Saturday, make your way to the Mounds State Park campground for Trick-or-Treating. Campers and folks from town are invited to don their Halloween costumes and trick-or-treat until 5pm. Ghouls and goblins from town can park by the Camp Store. Stop by and see the Naturalists at the mobile nature center on your way into the camp ground. Please note that the campground will be closed to all traffic during this event.
As the sun goes down, join the Naturalist to hunt for Puk-wud-jies! Come to the Camp Store at 7pm to learn more about these small, mysterious creatures of the forest. The hike will last one hour and you will want to bring along a flashlight.
The weekend concludes on Sunday. Take a walk in the woods and collect fallen leaves. Bring them to the Nature Center at 11am and use your leaves to create your own leaf creature. Inspired by the beloved children’s classic “Leaf Man”.
