Hinterlandt presents its first album in an all-new chamber group format at the Royal Exhange in Newcastle. Come and let yourself drift away in a wash of acoustic compositions on this Sunday summer afternoon.
On the new album "Ensemble", Hinterlandt explore their own conception of contemporary chamber
music with a progressive, experimental edge; combining Jochen Gutsch's compositions with guided improvisations and experimental performance techniques.
The result is an aesthetic that calls to mind Kronos Quartet, Tin Hat Trio or John Zorn's Masada works, with nods to classical composers such as Antonin Dvorak or Gyorgy Ligeti, and combined with an intimate, non-perfectionist sensibility that is closer to artists like Marc Ribot or Sufjan Stevens.
