"The Transgender Day of Remembrance seeks to highlight the losses we face due to anti-transgender bigotry and violence. With so many seeking to erase transgender people -- sometimes in the most brutal ways possible -- it is vitally important that
those we lose are remembered, and that we continue to fight for justice." - Gwedolyn Ann Smith
Transgender Day of Remembrance is held every November 20th to remember transgender lives lost since the previous year. Many of the victims of anti-transgender violence are transgender women of color. It is important for us to come together as a community to support the transgender community and stand against transphobic bigotry and violence.
Please join us at Bo Diddley Plaza on Monday November 20th for a local Gainesville Transgender Day of Remembrance, hosted by TranQuility, Pride Communitiy Center of North Central Florida, UF LGBTQ+ Affairs, and MAMA's Club. The event will start at 7:00PM. There will be several speeches from local trans women of color, reading of the names of those lost, and a candle light vigil. We also plan on having several trans individuals perform spoken word or acoustic music to further highlight the importance of Trans Day of Remembrance.
