España Antigua, Nueva España

In celebration of the 300th anniversary of the founding of San Antonio, we present a concert of beautiful, timeless sacred music from 16th- and 17th-century Spain and Mexico. A 14-voice choir will be accompanied by a band of viols, recorders, shawms, sackbuts, dulcians, harp, organ, and guitar, with

works by Victoria, Morales, Lobo, Padilla, Salazar, Sumaya, and more, and featuring Francisco López Capillas's "Missa de Batalla," a Texas premiere. We are thrilled to welcome the members of the American Musicological Society and the Society for Music Theory, who will be in town for their 2018 joint meeting.
