Donald Defrock Maker is a former graffiti artist from Lowell who started his journey in 1983.
He has been recognized as the founder of the oldest freight train writing crew in the Northeast, Circle T. Under the moniker King Mast One he was heavily active in the early 80’s on through the late 90’s. Maker is also recognized as a Lowell hip hop pioneer in the mill city for his frontman role in the Emc3, a rap group also hailing from Lowell circa ’85 to the late 90’s. The Emc3 crew was a heavily influential part of Lowell’s early hip hop scene and is documented in a publication titled “A Regional Guide to Hip Hop” and Maker himself has been featured in the documentary “Year Round Metal Enjoyment” released by Mint Films. Don Maker now performs his own raw brand of hip hop with his son under the name Defrock and Miles Maker. The father son duo has performed on stages for the past 10 years from New Hampshire to the Bronx and Harlem. The Art of Lyrics show host, Rhino, called them “the greatest father-son duo ever in the history of hip hop”. Defrock and Miles Maker were recently featured on the NH Chronicle and are currently being filmed for an upcoming documentary. As a visual artist, Don has worked with the City of Lowell, The Action Group, The Wish Project, and Youthbuild painting murals around the city of Lowell in recent years. He is slated to paint the Mill#5 “Mill Board” in June 2018 as their featured artist while his work is currently on display at the Cabot House Furniture Store in Portsmouth, NH. His first solo gallery exhibit will be on view at UnchARTed Gallery (Lowell, MA) from April 10th-29th in his hometown. See more of his artwork here https://www.facebook.com/DMakerart/
