Bushcraft Skills Weekend

This course is designed to teach the value of learning and the development of bushcraft techniques. This course is an ideal start for the beginner or anyone else who wishes to try their hand
at something different. It is also great for anyone who has a solid understanding of the concepts and skills related to Bushcraft and Wilderness Survival and they wish to further develop and hone their skill set. By no means is this a basic course or an endurance test. It is designed for hands-on experience in a fun and informal environment under the guidance of professional instructors. No experience is required to attend this course.
Information & Skills Taught:
Knife and Tool Safety: We will cover safe handling and use of knives and tools used in a wilderness environment.
Knives & Tools: We will discuss and show different types of knives and tools and explain what works best for different types of tasks in a wilderness environment.
Knife Skills: Introduction to Bushcraft Knife, and its uses including basic carving, cutting skills, batoning, and feather stick making.
Bail Sticks, Pot Hangers, & Tripods: Learn methods of suspending pots, and containers over the fire for boiling and cooking.
Shelter Building: Constructing a raised bed shelter using natural and manmade materials, including useful knots.
Traditional Fire Making Techniques: Learn to use Ferrocerium Rod & Flint & Steel with a variety of manmade & natural tinders.
Bushcraft Haversack: Learn what is needed for an overnighter and how to pick the right gear for you.
Bed Rolls: Learn how to pack and carry clothing, cordage, food, tarp, and a wool blanket in a simple carry design.
Frame Pack: Construct a Frame pack using natural and manmade materials found at a local Hardware Store.
Camp Furniture: Learn basic concepts & techniques on how to make quick camp seating and tables.
Age Requirements: This course is appropriate for ages 10+, however, it is a fast-paced learning experience designed for teens and adults. All participants under the age of 18 must have an agreement signed by their parent or legal guardian and children under the age of 15 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian throughout the course.
What to Bring:
Either a hammock or tent, sleeping gear
(Temperature appropriate sleeping bag or wool blanket)
We suggest that you come dressed in weather appropriate clothing. During certain seasons the weather can change throughout the day. So close-toed shoes, long pants, lightweight long-sleeve shirt, a hat, and rain gear is needed. In colder seasons it is recommended to have long underwear, coat, and a warm hat.
Please make sure to pack your medications, toilet paper, and hygiene items. We have composting toilets and a shower house.
This is a two-day course so you will need 2– breakfast meals, 2- lunch meals, and 1- dinner. We have a kitchen to prepare breakfast. Since the course is fast-paced we ask that you bring something quick to prepare for lunch. You can either use the kitchen to prepare your breakfast and dinner meals or you are welcome to cook over an open fire.
It is also a good idea to pack snacks and plenty of drinks. We will provide water. Please bring a closed container to carry your water.
Bring something to takes notes with if you wish. You may also want to bring a camera for photography permitted by the instructor.
We welcome you to bring your bushcraft kit. If you don’t have one then we’ll provide all the things needed for your experience!
Date & Time: This course starts at 9:30 am on day one and ends the following day at 4:00 pm unless noted otherwise. Available class dates are noted in our calendar and event postings on our Facebook Page.
