Lawrence Novotny will discuss Brookings having the highest score in the state from The Human Rights Campaign after a review of city laws and policies regarding inclusivity for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender residents. He will be the keynote speaker at the Brookings County Democrats meeting Saturday,
April 7, at 10 a.m. in the Brookings Public Library. Novotny is chair of Equality South Dakota, a statewide organization that advocates for LGBTQ citizens. He is a retired SDSU biologist who is a volunteer activist in the community. He is also treasurer of the Brookings County Democrats.
The meeting will also include a report on the St. Patrick’s party held March 24 and plans for the upcoming general election in November. Legislative candidates Mary Perpich, Bill Adamson and Zachary Kovach will be available to answer questions.
