PRESS RELEASE -
Every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood. For the 3,900 Mississippians who live with sickle

cell disease every day, having access to blood could mean the difference between life and death. Blood transfusions are required for the duration of their lives. The Mississippi Sickle Cell Foundation is “Breaking the Silence” at its Annual Gala on Friday, August 25, 2017 at the Hilton Garden Inn in downtown Jackson. Our premiere events kicks off with a silent auction at 6 p.m. followed by the program at 7 p.m. Mississippi Blood Services CEO David Allen will serve as keynote speaker.

“The service work led by Mr. Allen has greatly contributed to the well-being of the sickle cell community and thousands more families across the state of Mississippi,” said Jeanne J. Tate, MSCF Board of Directors Chairwoman. “Mississippi Blood Services has been a consistent supporter of the Mississippi Sickle Cell Foundation over the years, and we are thrilled to have the leader of this worthy organization join us as our special guest.”

This year, MSCF is celebrating 21 years of service to the state of Mississippi. As a non-profit organization, MSCF is dedicated to breaking the silence, giving voice to the cause, and working to find a cure for Sickle Cell Disease (SCD). Support is needed to continue service to the thousands of individuals and their families who deal with this painful, genetic disease every day. Contributions go toward the MSCF’s Camp Sickle Stars Program – an annual camp for transitioning pediatric patients, Iyer-Smith Scholarship Program, and other community SCD service activities. Funds also help MSCF raise awareness and support for the SCD families.
