On May 11-13, to test your fitness pre-ALC, take a weekend away and join us for a day bicycling around Lake Tahoe! This event is so fun
and yet challenging enough that you’re in for an amazing adventure!
We ride a clockwise-loop circling gorgeous Lake Tahoe on a weekend bicycle-getaway designed especially for AIDS/LifeCycle participants and their friends. Bicycling does not get more beautiful than this. The setting for this ultimate bike trip is spectacular with incredible vista views of the lake among tall, pine forests. Plan to spend between four and eight hours on this 72-mile route, depending on your conditioning. Elevations go up to 6,800 feet. While all are welcome, the length of the trip combined with the many elevation differences makes this a route recommended for well-conditioned riders. Message Jamie if you have questions.
Be sure to join https://www.facebook.com/groups/125066261025800/ to get official updates and Event details.
While we’re cycling only the 12th, you should arrive at the Lake Tahoe north shore at the Tahoe Biltmore by Friday, May 11th. Hotel check-in starts at 3pm. Some will want to meet for dinner or a drink that evening. The Biltmore boasts some newly remodeled rooms, a decent casino, and it’s a stone’s throw from a walk on the beach. Call 1-800-BILTMORE for reservations. Please be sure to mention you are part of this group and use our discount code: “AIDS Life Cycle" Group Block to get our group rate. (See details below.)
In-house breakfast begins serving at 7:00am sharp Saturday morning (May 12th) at the hotel restaurant. We'll meet outside at 8:30am to sign-in and begin our day with some stretches, instructions, route details, and safety speech. That should get us out of there by 9:15am. This is an official ALC training ride with Support and Gear (SAG) cars being arranged for emergencies. Also, there will be plenty of experienced cyclists along to help you on your way. Please let Jamie know if you can help with a SAG vehicle.
You can ride at your own pace. We’ll stop for lunch at Heidi's Family Restaurant in South Shore (see www.heidisfamilyrestaurants.com ) as well as some other restroom/photo stops along the route. Hit the brand new hotel Jacuzzi (I asked) when you get back, or make an appointment for massage services (see hotel offerings). Spend Saturday night at the Biltmore and check out by noon Sunday morning. You can do more riding Sunday if you’d like.
Rooms must be booked before May 1 to get the group rate but this is such a popular event, it could fill before then so don’t wait. You can share rooms to keep costs down, but the hotel might charge an extra $10 a night if you have more than two in a room. See www.tahoebiltmore.com for details and directions. I'm not sure it matters, but if you are bothered by smoke, request a non-smoking room.
There are five room-levels in our block from which you can choose:
1. Standard cottage @ $89
2. Standard rooms @ $99
3. Balcony room @ $129
4. Deluxe cottage @ $139
4. Jr Suites @ $149
5. King Suites @ $169
The cancellation policy is now two weeks out. That sucks in the event of surprise rain or snow.
Our (20) room block is expandable until May 1, and of course it will depend on availability - like if some wedding gets planned and the wedding party takes up the balance of the unblocked rooms. That's happened before. These are substantially discounted rates, (similar to those on Hotels.com) but please use our group code on the phone or you'll pay full price. Bikes can be stored in your rooms, but if you need to do maintenance on them, you must provide a tarp or risk a cleaning fee.
This will be a blast. Bring your camera. You’ll meet new, fun people too. Carpool if you can and come on up for a wonderful weekend under the trees. Invite your cyclist friends to come along. All ALC cycling rules apply, and please use this Event page to RSVP your YES. Please don't click "Maybe." Ever.
