August: Osage County

Tracy Letts black comedy, August: Osage County has been described as fiercely funny and bitingly sad. A vanished father. A pill-popping mother. Three sisters harboring shady little secrets. When the large Weston family unexpectedly reunites after Dad disappears,

their Oklahoman family homestead explodes in a maelstrom of repressed truths and unsettling secrets. Mix in Violet, the drugged-up, scathingly acidic matriarch, and you’ve got a major new play that unflinchingly—and uproariously—exposes the dark side of the Midwestern American family. Winner of the 2008 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. “August” premiered at the Steppenwolf Theatre in Chicago, June of 2007 and opened on Broadway at the Imperial Theatre in December of the same year. It won the Tony Award for Best Play, Best Leading Actress, Best Direction, Best Featured Actress and Best Scenic Design.
