We will be running an artificial wall climbing assessment for pre-rigged ropes (as you would find in a commercial climbing wall environment) for any Scout Leader who has either completed a GME training course, an equivalent Scout training course, or has their CWA or SPA training.
This will be a live
assessment, so a great opportunity to give a few of your Scouts or Explorers a well managed climbing session!
You will be expected to run the whole session, including a safety briefing and warm-up, and then get the Scouts climbing and belaying each other under your supervision and instruction. The assessors will throw in the odd curve-ball for you to deal with to check our ability to manage the group and deal with potential incidents.
You will need to submit some paperwork at least one week before you attend. This will be:
- An Activity Permit Application Form
- A log book detailing your personal climbing over the last three years and your involvement in any supervision
- A Risk Assessment for the session you're going to run
This assessment does not cover either abseiling, or rigging climbs on artificial structures. These can be added on at a later date by request.
If you would like to attend this assessment, please sign up here. Further information also available at http://www.gmescouts.org.uk/volunteer-development/adventurous-activities/how-to-get-a-permit/, or email firstname.lastname@example.org
