Lecture – Julie Wakefield
Anglo-Saxon England, during the transition between paganism and Christianity, had a rich medical tradition which is attested in surviving texts. It fell into two categories: straightforward herbalism and ritual healing – with rites which were intriguing and often complex rites.
Tonight’s lecture looks at this subject with an especial emphasis on the magical aspects of the ritual ritual healing.
Julie Wakefield, a Cambridge graduate, is a museum freelancer in historic medicine, who works at the Old Operating Theatre and Herb Garret.
