Jaylene Dolph is a lifelong resident of the Wisconsin Rapids area, growing up in Nekoosa. She graduated from MSTC with her nursing degree and she is currently working as a nurse and living in Wisconsin Rapids with her fiancé. Jaylene is a mother of a 9 year old little girl. She is also a daughter, a
sister, an aunt, a granddaughter and a friend to many. But most importantly, Jaylene is a person in need of our community’s help. At just 30 years old, Jaylene has undergone a kidney transplant surgery.
In 2005, Jaylene was diagnosed with spinal meningitis and miraculously survived after a number of doctors believed that she wouldn’t make it through her first night in the hospital. Jaylene spent 30 days in that hospital and 13 days in a coma, but she fought and she survived. Unfortunately, that nasty disease took a toll on Jaylene’s body. Her kidneys never regained total function and continued to decline in function for 11 years. Her kidney function declined to the point that Jaylene was placed on the kidney transplant list in March 2016.
On the evening of September 24, 2016, Jaylene unexpectedly received the call that a kidney match was found and she needed to report to the UW Hospital in Madison in just a few hours. She had her kidney transplant surgery the very next day. Undergoing transplant surgery is stressful, but the financial strain on Jaylene’s family is tremendous. Not only will Jaylene have to endure the cost of the transplant surgery itself, her income is affected since she isn’t able to return to work while recovering. There will also be travel expenses for follow up appointments in Madison and there are expensive medications she will be required to take for the rest of her life.
Jaylene is a nurse in our community, so she is helping people every day of her life. We are asking the community to return the favor and help her. She needs us!
In an effort to help Jaylene and her family defray the expenses of travel and medical care, a fundraising benefit is scheduled for Saturday, January 21, 2017 at Wild Horse Saloon & Banquet Facility in Wisconsin Rapids.
