Mowbird are a slacker-pop quartet from Wrexham,
Formed by Ben Sawin (vocals/guitar) and Mike Smith (bass) with the later additions of Suzanne Dempsey (organ/vocals) and Ben Valentine Trow (drums/vocals), they self recorded and self released four EPs (Excellent, OK / Ilk / We Sell Maternity Swimwear / The Quiet Despair Of The Starship Enterprise) before signing to Cardiff based Shape Records.
Their debut album Islander was released in February 2014, preceded by single Happy Active Horse Organ which garnered radio play by Huw Stephens (Radio 1), Bethan Elfyn & Adam Walton (BBC Radio Wales) as well as Tom Ravenscroft & Marc Riley (6music), the latter for whom the band recorded a session and followed up the success of the album with a collaboration with fellow Welsh popster Sweet Baboo.
The Tragics were born on a Friday afternoon long ago in Sowerby Bridge when, fueled by a crippling overdose of tea and cheap tobacco Jim Bottomley (Guitar, Vocals) and Andy Greaves (Vocals, Guitar) all of a sudden started to play 'country music' by mistake. Shortly afterwards Andy learned to play the mandolin, on purpose.
Their characters now as black as tar and tannin Jim and Andy still play as a duo though the Tragics at its fattest is a six or even seven piece band taking in a variety of musical styles delivered with cheerful savagery, memorable melodies and (preferably) not too many chords.
On April 1st 2013, Saints Alive were in the early stages of development. As a three-piece we found multiple gigs across and beyond the Halifax area, including secret rehearsals for the 'Tour De Yorkshire' opening ceremony. However due to multiple complications and raging hormones within the band, we decided to go our separate ways...
When suddenly as if by magic, the request for a return gig in mid-2015 caused the reformation of Saints Alive! Returning to the stage (with a little more facial hair) is: Tim Rothery on lead vocals and guitar, Charlie Nuttall on drums and Matthew Bean on bass and backing vocals. However you may count 4 of us? The addition of Evan Tate came in early 2015, during the reformation of the band. As a guitarist and backing vocalist, Evan brings depth and evidently adds to our unique style and sound.
Opening our Family Friendly Sunday we have Lucy Parker and before that Lennie Ainsworth.
Hey, my name is Lucy and I am 16 years old. I am just starting out as a singer, and with the help of my amazing vocal coach and very supportive family and friends, I am now playing gigs in the local community. Coming to local gigs like this is what inspired me to pick up a guitar and learn how to play, so I am extremely grateful to be playing at the place that started my musical journey.
