Pere Ubu are
hitting the road with the music from their new album, ’20 Years In A Montana Missile Silo’ (Cherry Red Records, release date 9/29/17), starting with the east coast of America. ‘The MonkeyNet Tour’ will deliver an hour-long set of new songs, peppered with tracks from previous albums and David Thomas’ infamous narratives in-between. On the choice of tour name, Mr Thomas says, “An infinite number of monkeys clicking on an infinite number of links will yield nothing but an infinite number of bananas. ”With the new track ‘Monkey Bizness’ giving a taster of what’s to come, anticipation of hearing the new album is high and, along with the rave reviews of their live performances last year, fans are guaranteed a Pere Ubu show unlike those that have gone before, but with all the same extraordinary components.
The touring band for Pere Ubu are:David Thomas –vocals; Gary Siperko –guitar; Robert Wheeler –Analog synths, Theremin; Michele Temple -bass guitar, backing vocals; Steve Mehlman -drums, percussion, backing vocals.
Andy Gill, in the New Musical Express, wrote,
"Yet by 1978 PERE UBU had achieved what no other group would even attempt, before or since, they had become the world's only expressionist Rock `n` Roll band, harnessing a range of rock and musique concrete elements together in a sound which drew its power from, and worked on, levels of consciousness previously untouched by popular music. The music Ubu made in 1978 was heart and soul, body and mind, in one."
Robert Palmer, in the New York Times, wrote:
"PERE UBU was either ahead of its time or out of step altogether; the band's earliest music sounds as if it could have been recorded yesterday, and is likely to keep sounding that way for some time."
Joe Cushley, in Mojo, wrote:
"PERE UBU are generally regarded as the missing link between the Velvets and punk. From the beginning they obviously understood the nuts and bolts of popular music, and then loosened them."
MINIBEAST: MINIBEAST is the musical creation of Peter Prescott (Mission Of Burma, Volcano Suns, Kustomized, Peer Group). Minibeast combines surf, psych, punk, easy listening, 60’s children’s music, and soundtrack influences to create instrumental soundscapes. Live, Minibeast is a 3-piece band with Keith Seidel, Eric Baylies, and Peter Prescott.
